Recently, I started my journey to better health and researched home delivery meals as a way to lose weight AND simplify my life. I had heard much about home delivery meals—their ads are everywhere—but I was a bit skeptical. I’m a person who painstakingly picks produce at the grocery store each week—only the firmest green peppers, undamaged onions, perfect garlic bulbs, and so on. Thus, my immediate concern was: What would their produce look like?
I initially chose Sun Basket for their touting of organic produce, but as I started receiving packages (see the video for my first delivery), I was more than pleasantly surprised—the veggies are perfect!
So, here are my 5 Pros for using Sun Basket home delivery meals.
- Convenient. Absolutely no measuring. And no wasting time at the grocery store or in the kitchen. Perfect for those, like me, with a busy lifestyle.
- Quick and easy cooking, which leads to no waste. You use everything in your basket. As a single person, I could not possibly each a whole head of cabbage in a few days, thus Sun Basket providing everything I needed ONLY for two meals was perfect!
- Commitment to sustainability—organic, farm-sourced ingredients and recyclable packaging—what more could you ask for?
- Flexible. You can change your basket, skip weeks, plan things 6 weeks out, and even gift your basket to someone else.
- Assortment of plans. Many say, variety is king so in the plethora of meal services out there, for me Sun Basket is king. They have 10 different plans to choose from, and for those looking to lose weight like me, this is a gold mine—diabetes friendly, gluten-free, vegetarian, lean and clean, and so on. I chose Lean and Clean first because of being under 550 calories per serving, then for its touting lean proteins and clean ingredients with no gluten, soy or dairy (win-win for me, something easy that I didn’t have to plan and prep).
The only Con that I could come up with is the breaking down of the boxes with the “ice” packs. If you compost, then this is perfect for you. The stuff in the ice packs (98% water and 2% non-GMO cotton, makes great compost material. Add in all those scraps from chopping—like those carrot ends or outside onion peels—and your plants will thank you.
Many have touted Sun Basket for helping them lose weight. I too have seen the benefits, dropping 4 pounds the first two weeks. So, here are my 8 ways Sun Basket helps you lose weight.
- Convenience. No wasting time in the grocery stores, perusing the wares, which can often lead to impulse purchasing.
- Portion control. Research has shown that we tend to eat more when we are offered more. This goes back to my childhood when my mom always told me to “clean my plate.” Even today, I tend to leave nothing on my plate, which is bad when going out—restaurant portions are HUGE. Sun Basket gives just the right amount of food, which fits on a smaller plate, and the fact that there is never anything left over is also perfect. I shall NOT overeat.
- Calorie conscious. Lean and Clean plan meals are under 500 calories and high in protein. All Sun Basket plans are under 800 calories (many meals are around 330 to 440 calories), look them over, I’m sure there’s one perfect for you—check out the Carb Conscious, Paleo, Mediterranean, or Carb Conscious.
- Filling and satisfying. I’m often pleasantly surprised at how good the food tastes, and it satisfies my hunger.
- Improved eating habits. I’m eating more veggies and less starch and have become more mindful about what I eat for breakfast.
- Motivation. Eating well makes me look at other aspects of my life. I now want to exercise, and I look forward to the meals.
- Variety. So many meals to choose from. It also has me trying things I haven’t tried before. Meal planning is now a breeze. I would often scour my cookbooks for meals and now I don’t have to. Sun Basket gives me three meals every week (which is adjustable) and it’s already planned by them—I can fiddle around with the choices if I want, skip a week, give a week to a friend, add a meal or remove a meal.
- Add-ons. Sun Basket is not just for dinner. They have breakfast and lunch offers too. I tried their Radiant Raspberry granola and it was delicious (also packed with superfoods and prebiotics). Be sure to follow me on social media for I’ll be posting pictures and thoughts on my meals.
I simply love the time Sun Basket has given back to me, time I now put to better use for me—such as walking my dog. I no longer need to plan a menu, shop for the food, nor spend untold amounts of time in the kitchen prepping and cooking.
Give Sun Basket a try. Use this link for $40 off your first order when over $60 ($20 off if under $60). And yes, I shall get $40 off too when you use this link. My wallet will thank you because you’ll be helping me stick to my plan. And then share with me how you’re doing; we’ll keep each other accountable.
